The concept to approach IUGS to form a Task Group on Global Geoscience Professionalism arose as a result of informal discussions between the following national and multinational professional geoscience organizations during early 2012:
This resulted in a formal proposal being prepared and submitted to the IUGS, which was subsequently approved by the IUGS Executive Committee in Brisbane, Australia in during the 34 th International Geological Congress.
